Graduates interested in pursuing postgraduate studies abroad must personally complete the application process for their university of choice.
Available destinations span to all regions around the world, allowing students to select the option that best aligns with their academic interests. Admission to a foreign university for a postgraduate program does not require an existing agreement with UNAM.
Regarding funding options, financial support may be available through government agencies in Mexico or the destination country, educational organizations, or the universities themselves.
The Internationalization Office regularly shares opportunities for postgraduate studies abroad, as well as available scholarships, through its news and calls section and social media.
UNAM Academic Documentation
As part of the admission process, universities often require proof of undergraduate studies. To facilitate this, UNAM provides academic documentation that can be requested through the School Administration Office (CAE, School Registrar’s Office) and the UNAM General Directorate of School Administration (DGAE, Office of the Registrar at UNAM).
This document certifies the completion of your studies and the attainment of your degree in accordance with the approved graduation modalities.
It is issued by the DGAE upon completion of the degree process.
This official document includes your academic information (name, degree program, GPA, etc.), as well as the courses you have completed and their respective grades. You receive it as part of the academic review process upon finishing your degree. If you need additional copies, you can request them from the School Administration Office (CAE).
This document includes your study plan and the course content for the accredited courses. It is stamped and legalized by the General Directorate of School Administration (DGAE) at UNAM. Universities typically request this document to verify that the coursework completed in your undergraduate program meets the requirements for continuing postgraduate studies at their institution.
The procedure is carried out at the DGAE offices, located on the mezzanine of the Rectory Building. The School Administration Office (CAE) provides further instructions for this process.
The transcript includes the grading scale system used at UNAM, as defined in the General Examination Regulations (RGE). However, some universities may require a separate document specifying this scale. In such cases, the School Administration Office (CAE) can issue a certificate referencing the RGE of UNAM.
This request must be made directly at the Coordinator’s office (not at the service windows).
UNAM academic documentation is issued in Spanish. If a translated version is required, the individual must arrange the translation personally with a certified translator. It is recommended to consult with the embassy of the destination country or its educational agency about authorized translators for that country (e.g., Campus France, British Council, Education USA).
A suggested online search is "certified translators Mexico City" to find translation companies or individuals certified by embassies and foreign countries.
In some countries is often for academic documents to be sent directly by the university where the prior studies were completed. In the case of UNAM, only the General Directorate of School Administration (DGAE) can perform this task upon request by the graduate.
The School Administration Office (CAE) provides guidelines for this process.
* This information also applies to individuals who wish to discontinue their undergraduate studies at UNAM in order to continue at a foreign university and complete their degree there, and who will request that the foreign institution recognize the courses completed at UNAM. In this case, the transcript to be processed would be a "partial" transcript.
