There are various calls for applications that allow enrolled or graduated students to obtain resources for stays related to the initiation of thesis activities and academic stays where research is aimed at degree completion with a written work.
These stays can take place at universities and higher education institutions around the world, and in most cases, they do not require an agreement between universities for stays lasting a few weeks (excluding those for classes).
When choosing a destination and obtaining an invitation letter to participate in these calls, it is important to have a clear understanding of the project you wish to pursue and the institutions where it could be feasible.
At this stage, the guidance of the UNAM professor who will supervise your stay is essential. Often, this guidance may include recommendations for universities and even research professors who could host you, based on their academic connections, congresses, or research groups. Additionally, you can also research university websites to find laboratories and professors, whom you can contact electronically to present your stay proposal.
Request Support from this Internationalization Office to establish contact with another university
The Internationalization Office has established contact with various universities that have collaborations with UNAM and/or have the possibility of hosting students for academic stays. If you would like us to assist you, we require the following information in order to communicate with our contacts at these universities and present your proposal:
- Name of the school, center, department, laboratory, and, if possible, the researcher or research group you would like to work with. It is important to consult the university's website for this information.
- Academic history from SIAE (you can obtain it by printing the PDF from SIAE).
- Personal and academic motivation letter explaining why you want to carry out the stay at the institution of your interest. Be sure to mention the advantages you see in conducting your stay at their university, laboratory, etc.
- A brief curriculum vitae, highlighting activities related to the topic of your proposal, such as where you did your social service, projects you have worked on, etc.
- A brief summary of the project you wish to undertake, mentioning its scope and specifying the duration you propose for your stay (this often depends on the scholarship call you will be applying for).
- PROOF OF LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: If the institution is in a non-Spanish-speaking country, please write your documents in English and provide a document indicating your level of English proficiency. This can include language certificates, proof of proficiency issued by language centers, or any Cambridge certifications you already have. The stay calls accept other language proficiency options, not necessarily IELTS or TOEFL iBT certifications.
With this information, we will be able to contact these universities and send them your proposal.
Please note that it is the Coordination Office that will establish contact. We kindly ask you to reach out directly or send us the necessary information so we can proceed with the contact..
Universities we can consult about an invitation letter
Review their website and, with the guidance of your supervising professor for your stay, identify if any of these institutions would be suitable for carrying out your proposed project.
